10.06.2025
Mühltal, Germany, 10/06/2025: Riese & Müller, the premium manufacturer of e-bikes and cargo bikes, published its fifth Responsibility Report entitled “Living Motion”. In a major retrospective, the company summarises the progress it has made in the area of sustainability over the past five years and draws on current projects to show how sustainable business practices can be shaped in future in harmony with the environment and society.
“We laid the foundation for our Responsibility Strategy in 2019 with our vision of being the most sustainable company in the e-bike sector by 2025. At the same time, this was a clear and binding commitment to devote the company to the issue of sustainability in the long term – a decision that is currently more important than ever,” states Dr. Sandra Wolf, CEO of Riese & Müller. “We are demonstrating how we can practise responsibility along the entire value chain, motivate others, and move forward decisively with tangible projects, such as the use of recycled aluminium, circular design, or the BikeBox.”
The five-year comparison presented in the report traces the long-term success of the numerous sustainability projects, even in times of economic and political instability. The key milestones of Vision 2025 include:
- Reduction of total CO2 emissions by almost 30%, in particular through savings in transport, logistics, manufacturing, and commuting
- Reduction of CO2e emissions per bike by 40% while increasing the number of bikes produced by 20%
- Improvement in the Product Carbon Footprint of the Load75 cargo bike by 30%
- Implementation of circular design in product development
- Consistently high recycling rate of over 90%
- Europe-wide introduction of reusable packaging for the shipment of e-bikes, as well as Germany-wide for small components
- Use of ASI-certified recycled aluminium in frame construction
- Virtually complete transparency of strategy, climate, social and procurement practices along the Tier 1 supply chain through implementation of the VERSO Supply Chain Hub
- Percentage of women in management positions has tripled
- Successful quality and environmental management certification (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001)
